WATCH: Explaining the World Refugee Council’s Recommendation on Frozen Assets

In January 2019, the World Refugee Council issued its final report on the state of the global refugee system and the needs of refugees and internally-displaced persons. A number of calls to action were issued in this final report, including Action #46 which asks that national governments around the world freeze the assets of foreign regimes who are violating international human rights and causing forced displacement, and develop legal measures to divert that money back to those who have been negatively impacted.

Senator Omidvar is a Councillor with the World Refugee Council and was actively involved in the development of this call to action.
