Advisory: Senate committee to resume landmark charitable sector study

Ottawa – The Special Senate Committee on the Charitable Sector will resume its study on laws and policies governing the charitable sector in Canada with full-day meetings on Monday, September 17 and Tuesday, September 18.

Committee members will hear from legal experts, government officials, professional fundraisers, private-sector philanthropists, and employees and volunteers of charities and non-profit organizations from across Canada.

Senators Terry M. Mercer and Ratna Omidvar, chair and deputy chair of the committee, note that this study marks the first time in more than a decade that the federal government’s relationship with the charitable sector is being examined.
