On February 17, 2021 Senator Omidvar joined the co-chairs of the Federal Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector, Hilary Pearson (founding President of Philanthropic Foundations Canada) and Bruce MacDonald (CEO of Imagine Canada) to discuss the future of philanthropy in the context of recent policy developments. During the webinar, Senator Omidvar outlined Bill S-222, which she has tabled in Parliament. Entitled the Effective and Accountable Charities Act, the bill will amend the Income Tax Act to enable charities to establish equal partnerships with non-charities, while still ensuring accountability and transparency.
